Kansas City BBQ sauce recipe has its distinct flavor and flair. Most Kansas City-style sauces are tomato-based, just about all contain molasses, and everything gives you a small spike of heat at the end from cayenne pepper, chili powder, red pepper flakes, or a mix of all three. Making your BBQ sauce is now a piece of cake! With just 30 minutes, you can make yourself this savory and thick sauce. Here’s the recipe for success!
Boil the ingredients
Combine tomato sauce, tomato ketchup, liquid smoke, wine vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, and butter in a medium saucepan. You can also add onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, celery seed, paprika, cinnamon, cayenne, salt, paprika, and pepper to season.
With a pan on medium heat, slowly add all ingredients and bring to a boil above a moderate flame. While the mixture heats to a boil, use a whisk to stir and mix the components continuously. It allows the sauce to absorb the flavors of all ingredients while also ensuring uniformity.
Simmer the sauce
Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes after it has reached a boil. The sauce will thicken nicely, and the sweet scent of wonderful BBQ sauce will permeate your home. This step is crucial for how thick and delicious the sauce gets. It is essential to maintain the right semi-liquid consistency with a rich sauce.
Cool and Refrigerate
Allow the sauce to cool entirely after removing it from the heat. You may use it right away, but move it to a jar with a container and freeze it for 24 hours for the most delicate flavor. This time helps the flavors mix well and blend in with each other to reach the delicious flavor of the sauce. All the flavors will now result in a smooth, mouth-watering taste.
Simmer for longer if you want a thicker sauce and less time if you want a thinner sauce. If required, the sauce dilutes with a bit of water. It’s a flexible sauce with a tasty molasses, tomatoes, vinegar, and chili powder blend. Because it’s so thick, it complements a wide range of items in addition to ribs, chicken, and BBQ wings. It improves the flavor of baked beans, acts as a basis, and is also a dip on its own.
